THE DIGITAL AND THE DIPLOMACY: CONTEMPORARY TRENDS, CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR DIGITAL DIPLOMACY, GLOBAL DIGITAL COOPERATION & THE IT SECTOR
Open to diplomats, professionals from the IT sector, academics and students, especially in international relations, computer science, law and economics, this English-language event is organized by the Centre for International Cooperation and Development Studies (IDC) of the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest, in partnership with the Romanian Diplomatic Institute, and it is developed as part of the Erasmus+ project Digital Diplomacy: Building the Common Future with Technology (DD-Tech, 2021-1-TR01-KA220-HED-000027609, www.digitaldiplomat.eu).
Prior registration at https://forms.gle/y2M3UDETccXYS8EN8 until the 15th of June is required for access in the building and for guaranteeing a seat in the room.
Refreshments will be available for all participants at the venue, courtesy of the Centre for International Cooperation and Development (IDC) of the University of Bucharest.

Corneliu BJOLA
Corneliu BJOLA is Associate Professor of Diplomatic Studies at the University of Oxford, where he also leads the Oxford Digital Diplomacy Research Group. He received his PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto (2007) and previously taught and conducted research at McMaster University and the University of Toronto. He was a research fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and a Visiting Fellow at the Australian Defense Force Academy (2012) and China Foreign Affairs University (2016). His current research interests relate to the impact of digital technology on the conduct of diplomacy with a focus on strategic communication and digital influence as well as on theories and methods for countering disinformation and propaganda. He has authored or edited several books, including the twin volumes on Countering Online Propaganda and Violent Extremism: The Dark Side of Digital Diplomacy (2018) – listed in the 20 Best New International Relations Books to Read in 2019 based on CNN, Inc. and Forbes recommendations – and Digital Diplomacy: Theory and Practice (2015). His work has been published in the European Journal of International Relations, Review of International Studies, Ethics and International Affairs, International Negotiation, Cambridge Review of International Affairs, Global Policy, Journal of Global Ethics and the Hague Journal of Diplomacy. He is co-editor of the book series on 'New Diplomatic Studies' with Routledge, and Editor-in-Chief of the new journal Diplomacy and Foreign Policy. He is also the recipient of the 2014 OxTALENT award for enhancing students' learning experience using social media apps awarded by the Oxford Committee on Teaching and Learning Enhanced with Technology.
Mihai MATEI
Mihai MATEI is vice president of Concordia Employers’ Confederation and the President of the Employers' Association of the Software and Services Industry (ANIS). He graduated from the Faculty of Automation and Computers at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, and in 2005 he founded Essensys Software, of which he is CEO. With over 20 years of experience in the IT field, he is the main author of the first software procurement guide for public institutions in Romania and a prominent voice of the profile industry in the country. Mihai is also one of the founders of the NGO Geeks for Democracy, where he coordinates the Fund for Democracy and other civic projects
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The main objective of the project Digital Diplomacy: Building the Common Future with Technology (DD-Tech, 2022-2025) is to develop an open access e-learning module on digital diplomacy that can be used in universities and life-long learning programs everywhere in the world for training future experts in the field, while also opening a multis-stakeholder dialogue on topics that are relevant for addressing the connection between the IT sector, human development, and international cooperation. The project is developed through a EU-funded consortium led by Istanbul University, and also including the University of Tartu (Estonia), Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Italy), University of Bucharest (Romania), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), and Istanbul Commerce University (Turkey).
